Botox and Dysport for Wrinkles

For those who follow me, you know I like to anticipate things. Wrinkles are a big issue for me. And as the saying goes, prevention rather than cure.

So I decided to look for ways to remove those wrinkles, mostly my forehead wrinkles. Among the multiple solutions, botox is one the most populat treatments.

Most people are familiar with Botox for wrinkles. It’s the go-to solution for the biggest names in show business and is popular with the non-celebrity crowd; as long as they can afford it. Botox is considered to be pretty safe and has been used for over 20 years now, but a new challenger entered the game in 2009.

This challenger is called Dysport. Dysport has been in the European scene for a long time, but only recently entered the American market. Now there’s a lot of debate over Botox and Dysport for forehead wrinkles. Here is the result of my research. Hope that can help you too.

What is Botox and Dysport for Wrinkles?

Botox is an injection that relaxes those muscles in your forehead that are causing wrinkles to happen. Dysport is not much different from Botox. They are both kinds of botulinum type A, but the difference is that Dysport uses smaller molecules, which means that it is measured differently to Botox.

The Differences

In reality there aren’t that many differences between Botox and Dysport. There are a few though.

  • For a start, Botox tends to be more efficient. Dysport might not last as long as Botox does, so you would need to have more injections over the same period of time. Whether this is true or not is still being debated, with further study underway to know for sure if this really is the case.
  • Another difference is that, even though Dysport might not last as long, it does get to work faster than Botox. It can take up to a week for Botox to start working properly, whereas Dysport gets to work within 2 and 5 days.
  • The final main difference between the two treatments is that Dysport can diffuse more, which basically means that it spreads more. This can be an advantage and a disadvantage at the same time. It’s good for certain areas of the face, but not for others.

Cost

The cost difference between Botox and Dysport is a little interesting. It is true that Dysport is cheaper than Botox. Dysport is around a third of the cost of Botox. What is interesting is that Dysport is also about a third as potent as Botox. This means that a full treatment with the same results would work out at around the same. Realistically, if cost is an issue , you need to consider the overall cost of the product. Dysport is cheaper, but you will need more of it. So it’s not much cheaper in the end.

Which is Better – Dysport or Botox?

When it comes to comparing Botox and Dysport you can consider it a comparison between apples and apples. Gala apples and Granny Smith apples are both delicious and nutritious in their own ways, but at the end of the day; they’re just apples. The same could be said of Botox and Dysport. They have their own advantages and disadvantages, but they aren’t much different at the end of the day. In fact, what matters more than the product is the one applying it; no matter whether you choose Botox or Dysport, you must only ever have the procedure performed by a qualified and trusted professional. That is probably the most important piece of advice you should keep in mind. Here again I thank sophie for her blog post about forehead wrinkles which helped me write this article. Forehead wrinkles can be removed with several treatments, but you need to be patient and consistent.

If you want me to write about other topics, feel free to give me a shout 🙂

How to Boost Your Self-Esteem

happy-womanSometime we strive to be more beautiful in order to compensate a lack of self esteem.

We can all feel a little down about ourselves at some point. Some of us are able to move past it while others get bogged down and have trouble escaping the trap of low self-esteem. If you’re feeling down it feels impossible to perk yourself back up but it really isn’t.

I wanted to write an article about self esteem because beauty comes from within too.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

One big reason that we feel so down about ourselves is that we look at other people and see how “great” they have it. The fact is that the people who seem happy might just be better at hiding their own pain. Not everyone who appears happy is really all that happy. They also have problems of their own that you don’t know about. That person you’re comparing yourself might be worse off than you. Even if they are better off than you it’s not something you should be focusing on. Focus only on yourself and your problems and how they can be solved. When you stop thinking about how great other people have it you can start thinking about how great you have it and how to fix the problems you have. Everyone is good at something. Focus on what you’re good at; not what other people are good at.

Do Some Exercise

Exercise is one of the best natural mood boosters there is. It helps to go out when it’s sunny so you can soak up some much needed vitamin D. It can be really hard to push yourself and go outside when you’re feeling down but after just ten minutes out in the sun you’ll be glad you did it. You’ll always feel better after a walk. Always.

Be Good Enough

What we mean here is that perfection is impossible. No one is perfect and no one can be perfect. You should aim for great and be happy to be great. It’s all well and good to want to do a good job but don’t push yourself too far aiming for perfection because it just doesn’t exist.

Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself

When you’re already feeling down it’s all too easy to really beat yourself up if you make a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes. It doesn’t matter who they are, everyone has messed up at some point. It’s just human nature. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and learn from your mistakes. You can always take something positive out of a mistake, even if it’s just how to avoid making the mistake again. Be positive. force yourself at first if necessary.

Do Something You Enjoy

Everyone has something that makes them happy. When you’re doing something you enjoy it’s bound to perk you up a little and get you thinking positively. It’s even better if it’s something you’re good at. Doing something you enjoy and doing it well is a great recipe for a positive outlook.

If you’re having trouble eliminating your self-esteem and you’re getting worried about your mental health then it’s vital that you seek out professional help. Please don’t stay alone and talk to your family , friends or your doctor if you’re worried that you might have a depression or are becoming a risk to yourself.

You are worth it 🙂

How to bleach hair

bleached-hair

Bleached blond hair never really goes out of style, and it’s something most women try at least once.

Some people also bleach their hair before they dye it.

I really love it, it gives my hair a sexy color, i even like to try new shades or colors ( only for holidays 🙂

There are in fact a number of ways you can go about bleaching your hair at home that can be done using simple beauty supplies.

I thought it would be useful to write a quick tutorial…

Gather Supplies

You will need a bleaching kit. Pick up 2 if you have thick hair or long hair. You also need 30 sectioning clips or four large clips. These are clips that will separate and hold your hair.

Also grab a tint brush, some plastic wrap, an old towel, plastic/latex gloves and a tail comb. The bleach you need depends on your hair so read the box properly to find the right one for you.

Prepare with a Strand Test

Bleaching your hair can damage it if you leave the bleach in for too long. That’s why you need to prepare with a strand test. Take a small bit of your hair from a place people won’t notice (such as the back of your head) and tie it together. Take this lock of hair and place it in the bleach mix before applying it to your hair.

Check the hair every five minutes so you know how long the hair on your head should take to bleach, and how long is definitely too long to keep it in. Remember that the longer hair is exposed to bleach the more damage it does.

If your hair is damaged by bleach, you should have a look at our friends from myawesombeauty.com, ok I had the idea of doing that article because they wrote a super nice article about how to repair bleached hair here. That wil help you avoid those dry, orange or yellow hair, split ends with breakage ang get back stronger and softer hair.

Time to Bleach

It’s pretty difficult to bleach your own hair so always prepare properly. You will need help if your hair isn’t short. You should start with your hair as dry as possible. Having greasy hair actually makes the bleaching process easier. Bleaching makes your hair itch and if it’s greasy the effect is less intense.

If you can’t find a friend then you definitely need two mirrors so you can see how the back of your head looks. You also need to use non-metallic bowls for everything. Nothing you use should be metal.

Use your tint brush to part your hair in to four sections and use the clips to keep your hair this way. Now mix up your bleach in the bowl by using your tint brush. Remember that bleach damages cloth so use only your worst towels and don’t get it on your clothes.

Start with one of the back parts of your hair and apply the bleach to a small piece of the hair, leaving about 1cm of hair at the roots not bleached. Brush your hair from the top to the bottom, which is how hair grows. Flip the hair to expose the bottom part that doesn’t have bleach and work through that too. Move as quickly as you can so that the first section isn’t fully lightened before you start work on the last.

Do this with the rest of this section and then move on to the other parts of your hair. By the time you’ve done all four the first section should have lightened.

Bleach it again when it becomes a golden blond and this time do bleach the roots. Keep going until all your hair is a pale blond and use shampoo and conditioner to get the bleach out. If your hair isn’t an even pale blond at this point you need to mix up some more bleach and touch up the darker parts. Then just shampoo out any extra bleach.

remember not to expose your hair to bleach for a limited time or it could be used as a method to remove hair 🙂 Bleaching isn’t nearly as scary as some people make it out to be, as long as you follow the instructions and test your hair before bleaching it. If you really are intimidated by the idea of bleaching your hair then just get a stylist to do it though.

Removing Hair With Home Made Wax

wax-for-hair-removal

The shaving and waxing industry in America is huge. I used to spend so much on wax that I probably account for a big portion of this market 🙂

It’s easily worth over a billion dollars.

The problem is that one reason so much is spent on razors and wax is because they can cost so much. So I tried to find a way to do my own wax. And guess what? There are many hair removal wax recipes to try.

So if you’re serious about keeping your body hair free but don’t want to break the bank doing it then you might want to try a home-made wax.

Best of all it’s completely natural and organic! If you use organic ingredients anyway. And the other advantage is you know what you out in it, which is important for those of you who might be allergic to fragrances in ready made products.

Here’s a recipe and guide on removing hair with home-made wax.

What you Need

This is a simple three ingredient recipe.

All you need is :

  • a quarter cup of honey,
  • one cup of granulated sugar, and
  • lemon juice.

About half the juice you get from a lemon should do. You can also use lemon concentrate if you don’t have a lemon handy.

What you Do

Start by mixing the ingredients together in a microwave safe bowl. Then put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Then stir everything up and cook it for another thirty seconds before stirring it once more. Don’t be afraid to stop cooking if things get hairy. Some microwaves may end up exploding the mixture if you cook it for a minute straight.

If you aren’t sure just cook it for 20 second increments and stir after each heating. If you’re that worried about blowing something up you can also mix it up in a saucepan as long as you don’t go over 250 degrees.

Be aware that the wax will definitely be hot when it finishes cooking. Let it cool down before you try putting it on your skin. It could take up to 20 minutes or it could take more depending on your skin. You also need to find some fabric to apply the wax too. Some things you can use include t-shirts, cotton strips, or, if you’re that desperate, the liner pad from a sanitary towel.

Place a thin layer of your homemade wax where the problem hair is and quickly place your strip of fabric over it. Press down on the fabric to make sure that everything sticks together.

Gently pull to get your skin taut and then tear it all off in one quick go, ensuring that you pull in the opposite direction that your hair is growing.

Because the wax is made using sugar it’s pretty easy to clean it up. You just need to wash it off with soap and water. If you have some wax left over then just cover the container and refrigerate it. You will need to reheat it a little or pour some hot water on it to use it again in the future.

And there you go!

You’ve just created home-made wax and used it, and saved yourself a ton of money on waxes. Plus all that honey is good for your skin. Remember there are also other methods but I sorta like the wax method. it is much easier in my opinion. Get in the habit of making your own beauty products like this and you can save money and know exactly what you’re putting on and in your body.

Feel free to let me know if this recipe helped you.

Witch Hazel Uses For Skin

witch-hazel-plant

I was reading a few of my favorite beauty blogs and I found out about a real gem that I had never heard of : witch hazel.

If you aren’t sure what Witch Hazel is as I was, it’s a kind of shrub found in northern America. It’s a completely natural product that is great for your skin. It’s known as Winterbloom or Spotted Alder in some places too. Well I didn’t know that plant was so useful for our skin until I read about the many uses of witch hazel for skin.

Here’s a look at just some of the wonderful things Witch Hazel can do for your skin:

Acne Treatment

Acne is a terrible thing to try and treat. There are so many different choices when it comes to things that can get rid of it. A lot of them make claims they can’t prove or contain chemicals that probably do more harm than good. Witch Hazel is an effective way to treat acne in a perfectly safe and natural manner and can be found on any list of natural acne treatments.

Reduce Puffiness Around Your Eyes

With Hazel is also great for reducing the puffiness around your eyes. If your eyes get too puffy from a lack of sleep or from crying all you need to do is put some Witch Hazel on cotton buds and place them on top of your eyes. One of the things that Witch Hazel is famous for is shrinking blood vessels, which brings your eyes back to their regular size.

Healing Bruises

If you’re the type of person that bruises easily then you need some Witch Hazel in your life. It’s really good at speeding up the healing process of bruises. Just apply some Witch Hazel to a soft cloth and apply it to the bruise a few times a day until the bruise goes away. It’ll still take a few days, but a lot less time than if left to heal naturally.

Rejuvenating Skin

Another thing Witch Hazel is great for is bringing your skin back to life in the summer time. Heat makes your skin oily and you can fix that by applying, once again, a cloth soaked in With Hazel to your skin. It cleans out your pores, removes dirt, and even leaves you smelling pretty good too.

Sunburn

A number of studies have proven how effective Witch Hazel is at treating sun related problems like sunburn. It reduces the redness and burning on the skin after it’s exposed to the rays of the sun. Of course you should always wear adequate sun protection but Witch Hazel will be there to take care of you when something goes wrong. Take a look a the awesome article of one of our favorite beauty blogs about the multiple uses of witch hazel on skin here. They have lots of DIY recipes, among which you will find one mixture to try for sunburns. Thanks sophie for the nice work 🙂

Moisturizing

Witch Hazel also makes a fantastic moisturizer. You might not think it does because it removes the oil from skin, but it also seals in moisture. It’s especially good if you suffer from dry skin in the winter time. Just apply some Witch Hazel after taking a bath or a shower and it’ll really help keep your skin moisturized all season long.

These are only a few of the things that Witch Hazel can do for your skin. There are many more benefits. The best part is that it’s completely natural. No harmful chemicals or anything else goes into Witch Hazel. All-natural is always better.

Why Can We Be Allergic To Fragrances?

woman-with-allergy

Most people like fragrances, but unfortunately allergies can also affect many people in the world.

Common allergies are animal fur and hay fever. But did you know that people can be allergic to just a fragrance?

If you’ve noticed you have an allergic reaction to perfume or deodorant you might actually be allergic to the fragrance.

Exposure

The main cause of allergies is overexposure to something. Allergies are caused when your body misinterprets something as a threat. The more you are exposed to something the more likely you are to have an allergic reaction to it. Even though fragrances are something that are everywhere today they’ve not been around all that long. At least in terms of human history. Our bodies are still adjusting to them. Now that they’re so prevalent and used so often more and more people are becoming overexposed to them and developing intolerances.

Asthma

Like every other allergy an intolerance to a fragrance is very bad for people who suffer from Asthma, Bronchitis, or other breathing related illnesses. They are susceptible to really strong scents most of all. If you’re asthmatic and notice a bad reaction to a particular fragrance then it goes without saying that you need to avoid it as best as you can.

Irritants Not Allergens

The term “fragrance allergy” is actually a bit of a misnomer. The things that set off allergic reactions (pollen, fur, dust) are known as “allergens”. But fragrances are not actually allergens. They are irritants. They irritate your sinuses and eyes. It’s not a real allergic reaction but it looks, feels, and acts like one. So if you’re allergic to a fragrance what is happening is that the fragrance is irritating your body. If you take a look under your sink you’re likely to find something with an irritant property with a warning to keep it away from your skin. Fragrances have that property too and some people are more irritated by them than others.

Chemical Allergy

Even though you can’t be allergic to a fragrance, it is entirely possible to be allergic to a chemical that’s inside it. If two different fragrances use the same chemical that you happen to be allergic to, you’ll have a reaction to both of them, rather than to one specific fragrance. If it’s due to a chemical then it does become easier to avoid at least. Just don’t use a fragrance that contains that chemical and you’ll still be able to enjoy fragrances.

At the end of the day research is still being done on why some people are irritated by fragrances and some aren’t.

Overexposure is partly to blame but because it’s not a true allergic reaction there is more to it than that. Basically if you have an allergic reaction to a fragrance then what you’re suffering from is one of two things:

  1. an allergic reaction to a chemical in the fragrance, or
  2. irritation from the fragrance itself.

If you think you have an allergy then you can consult your doctor who will run an allergy test with you. Either way you’ll have to do your best to avoid that fragrance or, in the event of an actual allergy, make use of anti-histamines.

Why I like to use Vitamin C Serums in my Beauty Routine

oranges

Everyone has a beauty routine made up of their favorite products. First you put on one thing, then another, and you keep on going until you’re done. Some products belong in that routine like moisturizers. A product that I really like is the Vitamin C serum.

What is Vitamin C Serum?

Vitamin C Serum is, as the name implies, a skin care product that utilizes vitamin c. Vitamin c is helpful because it allows your skin to produce more collagen naturally. It’s always better to go natural when you can. Why plaster collagen on your face when you can just encourage your skin to produce its own? When you get started it’s recommended to apply a small amount at first and build your way up to a higher concentration over time.

Benefits of Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C Serum does a fair bit more than just encourage the production of collagen. Though of course collagen is one of the main benefits. Collagen keeps our cells together and is the main treatment for curing and preventing wrinkles.

Vitamin C also acts an anti-oxidant. Oxidised skin is unhealthy skin. Vitamin C serums are packed full of anti-oxidants that not just get rid of oxidants but help repair the damage they’ve already done. It gets rid of the free radicals on your skin and reverses other damage too. It can fade acne scars and improve the look and feel of your skin overall.

Finally it also helps to protect your skin from the sun. Vitamin C strengthens the dermis layer and keeps away some of the damage caused by the skin and aids in preventing skin cancer. Though you should never replace sunscreen with Vitamin C serums. They only add extra protection and should never be used as a replacement to products with sun protection in mind.

What to choose

I only pick vitamin c serums with at least vit C 5%, I was a real fan of skinceuticals vit C serum but as you know those products are pretty expensive and I wanted to find cheaper alternatives.

After doing some research, I came accross a great beauty blog called myawesomebeauty.com that has become my go to place when looking for beauty reviews. They wrote really nice guides such as this guide that lists the best vitamin C serums here. Go check it, you will learn lots of things. I have even followed their recommendation and tested the serumtologie serum : I love it !!!

The Application Process

Like every good beauty product Vitamin C serums work best when applied properly. The application process is pretty easy though. Start by dampening your face a little and applying the serum on to your face and neck. After the serum dries out a little you need to apply a moisturizer.

It’s important the serum goes on first because the serum is absorbed by the skin. Moisturizers prevent this absorption process. Applying moisturizer afterwards isn’t entirely necessary but is a must if you have more sensitive skin.

How to store your Vitamin C serum.

If you have any serum left over it’s best to put it in the refrigerator. Putting it in the refrigerator prevents the serum from becoming oxidised and useless. There’s no point in an oxidised anti-oxidiser. So make your serum last longer and get more bang for your buck by storing it properly.

So there you have it; the benefits of Vitamin C serum and why you need to make it a regular part of your beauty regime. It does a lot for your skin and won’t add too much time to your routine.

If you like the sound of the benefits then be sure to pick up some for yourself.

Why people like to wear fragrances

perfumeFragrances come in all shapes and sizes. There are aftershaves, deodorants, perfumes, colognes, body butter, and many other different ways to make your body smell like something it’s not. But why would you even want to do that? In my opinion, here are the main reasons :

Smelling Nice

Perhaps the most obvious reason to wear a fragrance is to smell nice. Deodorants are great for that. They also help remove unpleasant smells like sweat. So they’re a double whammy of pleasantry when it comes to bodily odor. People also like to smell nice when they go on dates and have a night out. You want to attract people and you can’t do that when you smell so bad you drive them away.

Mood

Some smells also illicit moods in people. This is especially true of things like scented candles. They smell of all the things in nature that trigger your memories and imagination and make you happy. All your senses can trigger memories including smell. If someone smells like something that makes you happy then you’re going to respond positively to them.

It’s Therapeutic

As well as making us happy smells can be very therapeutic by taking us out of the world entirely. Not many men will admit it but even they occasionally like a warm bath that smells just like wherever they aren’t. It’s so much easier to escape the world when you aren’t smelling reality.

Individuality

Choosing a fragrance and wearing it also helps you show off your individuality. Everyone smells like a person. You have the freedom to smell like whatever you want and you’re going to use it. People show off their individuality in any way they can think of. From their clothes, to makeup, to fragrances. Smelling unique makes you more, well, unique.

Confidence

If you’re wearing an anti-perspirent then you know you aren’t going to smell of sweat. That applies to any fragrance you might wear. When you put it on you know exactly what you do and don’t smell like, and that can be a real confidence booster. Confidence makes life better and is the key to success. Take it where you can get it.

There’s a lot more to wearing a fragrance than just wanting to smell great.

They can help you feel great, boost your confidence, and even trigger memory recall. So what about you ? Why do you wear fragrances?

Home Made Acne Treatments

If someone told you that you didn’t have to spend hundreds on pimple creams, would you believe them? Well you better start believing because you can actually save hundreds of dollars just by making your own home remedies for acne. You’ll be amazed at how affordable and easy they are to make. Our skin reacts differently to different remedies but you might just be surprised at how effective the following home remedies for acne are:

1. Apple Cider Remedy

apple cider vinegarApple cider is not the best smelling home remedy for acne but it may just be the most effective. Scarlett Johansen uses this remedy herself and we all know how flawless looking her skin is. Apple cider has powerful antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. So here goes:

What you’ll need:

  • Cotton balls
  • Water
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • A small mixing container

Procedure:

  1. Wash your face and then pat it dry.
  2. Grab your small container and add in one part vinegar into three parts water. Get your cotton ball and dip it into the mixture. Apply it directly to affected areas. You can leave it on for 10 minutes, wash it off and then apply moisturizer or you can leave it on overnight and then wash it off in the morning, followed by a moisturizer.

TIP: I recommend that you do this when you don’t have anywhere else to go to. You can do this 2 to 3 times a day but leaving it on overnight works best.

2. Honey Yogurt Mask

 yogurt-and-honey

The combination of honey and yogurt may not make sense when thinking about them as a snack but they’re the perfect combination when talking about a home treatment for acne. While dairy products have been known to cause acne, this only happens when they are ingested as they have extra hormones but a different story is told when they are applied on the skin. Cleopatra, the woman known to have taken several milk baths in her lifetime, swears by it! Honey, on the other hand, has antibacterial properties as well as moisturizing properties.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp – any type of yogurt except skim
  • 1 tbsp – raw honey
  • Small mixing container
  • Face cloth

Procedure:

  1. Wash your face and then pat it dry.
  2. Take your small container for mixing and mix your 1tbsp yogurt and 1 tbsp honey. Mix it using the spoon with the honey or yogurt.
  3. When you’ve mixed both ingredients well, scoop out a spoonful and then apply it to your face.
  4. Let the first layer dry. Apply a second layer if need be.
  5. Let it stay on your face for 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. When time is up, take your wash cloth and wash off the mask using it. Apply circular strokes as you wash off the mask.
  7. Pat your face dry.
  8. Do this once a week.

TIP: It’s always a good idea to make your mask fresh. Discard any leftovers you may have and just make a fresh batch whenever you need it.

3. Fresh Papaya Mash

 papaya

No, this is not another snack. This is a great home remedy for acne prone skin. The first two ones may work but this fruit in mashed form is the most ideal. You see papaya has natural properties that remove dead skin cells and excess lipids from the surface of the skin. It also has papain which is an enzyme that reduces inflammation and helps prevent pus from forming. Without further ado:

What you’ll need:

  • A piece of fresh papaya
  • An instrument for mashing and cutting the papaya
  • A small container

Procedure:

  1. As usual, wash your face and pat it dry, getting I ready for the mash.
  2. Take your container and put some cut up papaya in it. Take your mashing instrument and mash the papaya until the consistency is right for application to the skin.
  3. Apply the mashed papaya to your skin and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Wash it off with warm water.

TIP: This is a good chance for you to introduce some papayas into your diet. Since you won’t really need the entire papaya, just a small piece of it, you can eat the rest as a snack or blend it to make a smoothie.

Acne Free Skin

And there’s plenty more where that came from. There’s several other skin remedies in the market but you might just find the one you’re looking for right in your own kitchen. Try and experiment with other home remedies for acne and see what’s best for you. Once you find the remedy that suites your skin as well as your budget, stick with it until another great home remedy comes along
